Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association pushes for stronger sustainability frameworks
The Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association (APDCA) has started a brand-new white paper calling for stronger policy and market partnership to enhance power sustainability all over data centers in the region.
Labelled Data Centres and Energy Sustainability: A Regional Perspective on Best Practices and Policy Frameworks, the paper was released on Oct 27 and lays out strategies to lower the environmental influence of information centers whilst meeting the climbing demand for electronic framework in Asia-Pacific (APAC).
Amongst the examples presented is Singapore’s BCA-IMDA Green Mark for Data Centres (GMDC)– a qualification system collectively established by the Infocomm Media Growth Authority (IMDA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to recognise information hubs with strong functionality and energy-efficient practices.
” Balancing power sustainability with the growing request for electronic infrastructure is among APAC’s defining hurdles,” states Jeremy Deutsch, chair of APDCA. “With the ideal policy frameworks, Asia-Pacific governments can guarantee that electronic transformation developments hand in hand with net-zero ambitions.”
Developers are motivated to collaborate carefully with regulators and industry partners to set up regular power efficiency criteria throughout the APAC markets.
Pushed by cloud fostering, digital companies and artificial intelligence (AI), local demand for information hubs is predicted to grow almost 20% each year through 2028. The International Energy Agency (IEA) anticipations that Southeast Asia’s data centre electricity use will almost double by 2030 contrasted to 2024– a trend mirrored throughout the wider APAC region.
The APDCA participants consist of leading worldwide operators, such as AirTrunk, Equinix, Digital Realty, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, and Princeton Digital Group.
The white paper highlights best practices to enhance power efficiency throughout the information centre lifecycle– from location selection, design and building to operations and monitoring. It additionally suggests policy procedures to accelerate accessibility to clean and renewable energy through stronger grid framework and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
